When life is good, enjoy it. But when life is hard, remember: God gives good times and hard times, and no one knows what tomorrow will bring.” Ecclesiastes 7:14 (NCV Version)
If we look at contentment as an attitude that shouldn’t be ruffled by circumstances then what kind of perspective should we have?
My brothers and sisters, when you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience. Let your patience show itself perfectly in what you do. Then you will be perfect and complete and will have everything you need. James 1:2-4 (NCV Version)
I have learned that pain has purpose, which, at the peak of excruciating discomfort, brings me little consolation. Hindsight, though, has often proven pain’s value. In fact, I have found pain to be one of life’s most effective teachers. It gains one’s full attention. It takes lessons down to the bottom line. Patsy Clairmont
My perfect life doesn’t involve any bad things when I plan it. I find it easier to be content when things move smoothly and without surprises. But, somehow through the years, I know that all the trials I go through do serve a purpose with God and He is using ALL things to work together in making me grow into the person He wants me to be and become – I only know that because that is what His word says, We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called, because that was his plan. Romans 8:28 (NCV)
It is not easy holding on but the Bible tells us to not lose heart. What does that mean? Lose heart in what? I look at this passage as don’t lose heart in praying, don’t lose heart in serving others, don’t lose heart with difficult circumstances and difficult people. Don’t lose heart in doing what God calls good which is faith and trust in Him. Hold on!
God, with his mercy, gave us this work to do, so we don’t give up. 2 Corinthians 4:1 (NCV)
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 (NLT)
So ladies (and gentlemen), don’t give up! There is a way being made that you can’t see. Ride this out, hold onto God and trust that He has you! You might be going through the hardest time of your life but God knows, God sees, God hears and He is standing beside you with arms open wide to walk you through the valley and to bring you through it.
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” Lamentations 3:23-24 (NLT)
Sit alone with God and talk to Him. Get your sleep. Eat right, make sure to breathe deep and most of all HOLD ON and trust. This to will pass!
